Healthcare Information for Children – from both to 5 years.

Healthcare visitors are based at Aston Heath Centre but provide a clinic at Bloomsbury Heath Centre on Wednesdays between 09:30 and 12:00. They are there to weigh babies and to help with any queries you may have concerning your child’s wellbeing.

Usually, The Practice Nurse gives the childhood immunisations and these are booked appointments. The doctor has booked appointments for eight week checks. Immunisations recommended for under 5’s at present as follows:

(Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio & Hib vaccine, 1st dose
Pneumococcal vaccine, 1st dose
Rotavirus vaccine, 1st dose
(Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio & Hib, 2nd dose
Meningitis C Vaccine, 1st dose
Rotavirus vaccine, 2nd dose
(Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio & Hib vaccine, 3rd dose
Pneumococcal vaccine, 2nd dose
Hib & Meningitis C booster
Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) 1st dose
Pneumococcal vaccine, 3rd dose
(Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio.
Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) vaccine 2mnbd dose.
A minor could need not delay an Immunisation.
Take your child and ask if you are in doubt.
A fever or mild irritability within 24 hours of an immunisation is common. Give Calpol in the recommended dose.
A Small swelling may develop at the Immunisation site. This common and should soon settle without treatment.
